Temporary residence right for displaced Ukrainians extended to March 4, 2027
Austria's temporary residence permit (Vertriebenen-VO) for people displaced from Ukraine has been extended by one year, now valid until March 4, 2027 instead of March 4, 2026. The change aligns with an updated EU Council decision and takes effect immediately.
What changed
The expiry date of the temporary residence right (vorübergehendes Aufenthaltsrecht) for Ukrainian displaced persons has been moved from March 4, 2026 to March 4, 2027. This reflects an EU Council Implementation Decision (2025/1460) that extended the protection period by one year across the EU.
Who is affected
Ukrainian nationals and stateless persons who were residing in Ukraine and have been displaced due to the armed conflict are affected. Anyone holding a temporary residence permit under this ordinance will now have one additional year of legal stay without needing to reapply or change their permit before March 4, 2027.
What to look out for
If you hold a temporary residence permit as a displaced person from Ukraine, your permit remains valid until March 4, 2027.
