Section Control speed monitoring activated on A 21 Vienna Ring motorway (Mayerling–Heiligenkreuz stretch)
Austria has established average-speed enforcement (Section Control) on a 7–8 km stretch of the A 21 Vienna Ring motorway between Mayerling and Heiligenkreuz, effective immediately. Drivers must comply with posted speed limits, as average speed over the entire monitored section will be measured and enforced.
What changed
A new regulation introduces Section Control (abschnittsbezogene Geschwindigkeitsüberwachung) on the A 21 Vienna Ring motorway. Instead of spot speed checks, a camera system measures your average speed over a defined section. Two directional stretches are now monitored: the Vienna-bound lane from km 16.08 to km 24.19, and the Steinhäusl junction-bound lane from km 24.19 to km 17.60.
Who is affected
All drivers using the A 21 between Mayerling and Heiligenkreuz must observe speed limits on these sections. Speed enforcement is automatic and will be applied to all vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles.
What to look out for
Entry and exit points of the monitored sections will be clearly marked with warning signs. Reducing speed near the signs to artificially lower your average will not help—the system measures your entire transit time. Exceeding the average speed limit across the monitored stretch will result in an automated fine being issued.
