New minimum wage tariff for home-based basket and wickerwork production in Austria
Austria's Federal Conciliation Office has established a mandatory minimum wage tariff for self-employed home workers (Heimarbeiter) producing or processing basket and wicker goods. The tariff sets piece rates calculated at €11.78 per hour plus a 10% home-work surcharge, effective 1 June 2026.
What changed
A new federal tariff (Heimarbeitstarif) was adopted on 19 August 2026 by Austria's Federal Conciliation Office, setting minimum compensation for home-based basket and wickerwork production. Piece rates must be calculated using an hourly rate of €11.78, and workers receive an additional 10% surcharge specifically for home-work costs.
Who is affected
Self-employed home workers (both female and male) producing or processing basket and wickerware for clients, and all employers (Auftraggeber) who commission such work across Austria. The tariff applies to this sector only where no other collective agreement or home-work tariff already covers it.
When it takes effect
The tariff became effective on 1 June 2026. All new and existing home-work assignments in this trade must comply with the new minimum rates from that date forward.
What to look out for
Employers must calculate piece payments based on €11.78/hour and clearly show the 10% home-work supplement as a separate line item on invoices or payment records. Workers should verify that both the hourly-equivalent rate and the surcharge appear on their compensation statements.
