Homeworker pay scale for button goods and their adjustment set at €13.11/hour plus 10% supplement
Austria's Federal Conciliation Office has issued a binding pay tariff for self-employed homeworkers producing and adjusting button goods (excluding twist buttons). The tariff sets piece-rate compensation at €13.11 per hour plus a 10% homeworker supplement, effective 1 June 2026.
What changed
A new homeworker pay tariff (Heimarbeitstarif) has been issued by the Federal Conciliation Office (Bundeseinigungsamt) under the 1960 Homeworkers Act. It applies nationwide to all employers (Auftraggeber) who engage homeworkers for button-good production and adjustment work (excluding twist buttons), and sets mandatory compensation rates.
Who is affected
Homeworkers (Heimarbeiterinnen und Heimarbeiter) producing and adjusting button goods, and all employers in Austria who hire them for this work. The tariff applies only to button goods not already covered by another collective homeworker agreement or tariff.
Compensation structure
Piece-rate pay must be calculated at an hourly equivalent of €13.11. In addition, homeworkers receive a separate, itemised homeworker supplement (Heimarbeitszuschlag) of 10% on top of the calculated piece rate.
What to look out for
The tariff became effective on 1 June 2026. Employers must ensure all invoices and payments to homeworkers for button-goods work reflect the €13.11 hourly rate and the 10% supplement itemised separately. The rules do not apply to twist-button work or activities already covered by other homeworker agreements.
