Austria's medical specialist-training regulation (ÄAO 2015) records 7th amendment, effective 1 August 2026
The 7th amendment to the Physicians' Training Regulation 2015 (Ärztinnen-/Ärzte-Ausbildungsordnung 2015, ÄAO 2015), published as BGBl. II Nr. 224/2026, is formally recorded and takes effect on 1 August 2026. It updates several core provisions and all specialist-training annexes (Annexes 1, 2, and 4–33).
What changed
A new closing section (§ 39) listing all commencement and expiry dates was added to the regulation text. Paragraph 14 records the 7th amendment (BGBl. II Nr. 224/2026): changes to § 3 Z 1, § 6 para. 1, § 27 para. 2, § 36, the new § 38c, and Annexes 1, 2, and 4–33 all enter into force on 1 August 2026. Abbreviation labels were also inserted after each annex — a formatting-only addition.
Who is affected
Physicians currently in general-medicine or specialist-training programmes under the ÄAO 2015 are directly affected, as are training institutions and the relevant supervisory bodies.
What to look out for
Anyone beginning or continuing specialist training from 1 August 2026 onwards should consult the updated versions of the affected annexes (1, 2, 4–33) and the amended provisions (§ 3 Z 1, § 6 para. 1, § 27 para. 2, § 36, § 38c), as the content of those training requirements may have changed.
