Dental Chamber Law updated with new quality-assurance entry-into-force dates (BGBl. I Nr. 64/2026)
Two new transitional provisions (§ 126 paras 21 and 22) have been added to the Zahnärztekammergesetz (Dental Chamber Act), implementing the Zahnärztequalitätssicherungsgesetz 2026 (Dental Quality Assurance Act 2026). They set out when new duties and repeals take effect for dentists and the Austrian Dental Chamber.
What changed
Paragraph (21) provides that the table of contents and the new § 19 para. 1 subpara. 3a (from BGBl. I Nr. 64/2026) entered into force on 1 July 2026; at the same time, § 51 (with its heading) was repealed. Paragraph (22) provides that the new § 50 (with its heading, also from BGBl. I Nr. 64/2026) will not enter into force until 1 January 2028.
Who is affected
Practising dentists (Zahnärzte) and dentists (Dentisten) registered with the Austrian Dental Chamber, as well as the Chamber itself, are affected by the updated quality-assurance framework and the expiry of the old self-evaluation rule in § 51.
What to look out for
The old § 52 and the related evaluation obligation under § 50 (old version) expired on 30 June 2026, but the Chamber must continue applying the regulation issued under old § 52 and carry out the evaluation under old § 50 in the delegated scope until at most 31 December 2027. The fully new quality-assurance regime under § 50 (new version) only becomes binding from 1 January 2028.
