EU procurement thresholds for defence contracts effective 1 January 2026
The Austrian Federal Minister of Justice announces new procurement thresholds set by the European Commission for defence and security contracts. These thresholds apply from 1 January 2026 onwards.
What changed
Austria's Federal Defence and Security Procurement Act (Bundesvergabegesetz Verteidigung und Sicherheit 2012) now specifies new monetary thresholds for when formal procurement procedures must be followed. The thresholds are: €432,000 for certain contract types and €5,404,000 for others, replacing previous amounts.
Who is affected
Public authorities and organisations in Austria that procure supplies and services for defence and security purposes must use these thresholds to determine when to apply formal procurement procedures.
When it applies
These new thresholds take effect on 1 January 2026 and follow the EU Delegated Regulation 2025/2487 on procurement thresholds for supplies, services, and construction contracts.
