New regulation for electronic parent-child health passport launched
Austria is introducing detailed rules for the electronic Eltern-Kind-Pass (parent-child health passport), a system for tracking children's health checkups and development. The regulation took effect on 1 October 2026.
What changed
The regulation establishes the framework for managing the electronic parent-child health passport. It sets out how health checkup results, examinations, and specialist referrals (particularly for ear, nose, and throat (ENT) and pediatric care) are recorded and stored in the system.
Who is affected
Parents and guardians of young children, pediatricians, family doctors, and ENT specialists who participate in the health screening program are affected. Healthcare providers must now record examination results and findings in the electronic system.
What to look out for
Parents should ensure their children's health data is properly entered into the electronic passport during routine checkups. Healthcare providers need to be familiar with the new system requirements for recording results and specialist referrals.
