Machine Fitter Apprenticeship: Supplementary Exam Rules Added
Supplementary exams in machine fitter (Maschinenschlosser) are now available for graduates of related trades. Candidates from operator fitter, fitter, and tool maker roles can take a supplementary exam covering a technical discussion; those from turner, mechanic, and toolmaker roles can take one covering practical work; and those from agricultural equipment mechanic, blacksmith, textile mechanic, or universal welder roles can take one covering both practical work and technical discussion.
What changed
A new section on supplementary exams (Zusatzprüfung) has been added. After successfully completing an apprenticeship exam in certain related trades—operator fitter (Betriebsschlosser), fitter (Schlosser), or tool maker (Werkzeugmaschineur)—a candidate may take a supplementary exam in machine fitter consisting of a technical discussion (Fachgespräch). Different combinations of related trades require different supplementary exam components.
Who is affected
Apprentices who have already passed their final exams in related mechanical trades (operator fitter, fitter, tool maker, turner, mechanic, toolmaker, agricultural equipment mechanic, blacksmith, textile mechanic, or universal welder) and wish to earn additional qualification as a machine fitter.
What to look out for
The supplementary exam is subject to the same general rules and procedures as the main apprenticeship exam, adapted appropriately to each supplementary pathway. Candidates should check which category their completed trade falls into to determine what components (practical work and/or technical discussion) their supplementary exam will include.
