Apprentice wages set for car rental company apprentices in Austria
The Federal Arbitration Office has set mandatory apprentice wages for office clerk apprentices in car rental companies, effective June 1, 2026. This applies where no collective bargaining agreement exists for the sector.
What changed
The Federal Arbitration Office established binding monthly apprentice wages: €758.50 (year 1), €1,083.50 (year 2), and €1,516.90 (year 3). All apprentices receive an annual holiday bonus and Christmas bonus equal to one month's wages. Apprentices over 18 use a specific salary table for calculating overtime pay.
Who is affected
Car rental companies (hiring office clerk apprentices) and their apprentices in Austria must comply. This applies to employers in the Kraftfahrzeugverleih (car rental) sector where no collective agreement currently covers wages.
What to look out for
Wages take effect June 1, 2026. Holiday and Christmas bonuses are paid as lump sums in June and December respectively, prorated for apprentices hired mid-year. For overtime calculations, use salary group 2a from the December 4, 2025 collective agreement for car rental staff.
